Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is a medical procedure that uses a concentrated beam of light (laser) to remove unwanted hair.

About Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is a popular and efficient method for permanently reducing unwanted hair. Using concentrated light beams, the procedure targets and destroys hair follicles, preventing future hair growth. It’s a preferred option for individuals seeking long-term hair reduction on areas like the face, legs, underarms, and bikini line.

How it Works

The laser uses energy to heat and damage hair follicles without affecting the surrounding skin. This precision ensures that multiple hairs are treated at once, maximizing the efficiency of each session.

While some may experience mild discomfort during treatment, modern laser devices are designed to minimize pain. Cooling mechanisms and advanced technology help make the procedure more comfortable, making it an excellent option for those sensitive to pain.

  • Avoid sun exposure for at least 2 weeks prior to treatment. If you must be outdoors, use a broad-spectrum SPF of at least 30 or higher to protect your skin.
  • Shave the area to be treated 24-48 hrs. prior to your appointment. DO NOT PLUCK, TWEEZE, OR WAX.
  • Avoid retinoids, exfoliating products or harsh skincare during treatment.
  • Do not use tanning beds during the course of your treatment.
  • Make sure to notify the office of any and all medications. Certain medications will make you more sensitive to light and disqualify you from treatment.
  • Be prepared for 6-10 sessions. Depending on the area of treatment, these sessions may be spaced 2-6 weeks apart.
  • Wear comfortable and loose clothing.

Candidates for Laser Hair Removal

  • Are at least 18 years of age
  • Are in good physical health without conditions that could affect skin healing or cause complications, such as certain autoimmune diseases
  • Have lighter skin with dark hair. The laser targets melanin (pigment) in the hair, so there is a contrast between the light skin and dark hair that allows for more effective treatment.
  • Have no active skin conditions such as, eczema, psoriasis, or active acne in the treatment area
  • Avoid Sun Exposure for several weeks before and after treatments
  • No underlying medical contraindictations

Laser hair removal is suitable for a wide range of individuals. The best candidates are those with fair skin and dark hair, as the laser targets pigment. However, advances in technology have made it possible for individuals with darker skin tones to benefit from this treatment as well. A consultation with Amber is required to determine if this procedure is right for your skin and hair type prior to booking.

Quick answers to questions you may have

Permanent Hair Reduction vs. Complete Removal:

  • Permanent hair reduction: After a series of treatments, most people experience long-term hair reduction. The remaining hair that grows back tends to be finer, lighter, and less dense. However, occasional touch-up treatments may be needed over time.
  • Complete removal: Complete and total permanent removal of all hair is not guaranteed. Some individuals may experience complete hair loss in treated areas, but for others, hair can regrow, though it’s usually finer and less noticeable.

Depending on the cause of your hair growth, it may require more treatments and evaluating underlying causes like hormonal imbalance. This can be discussed at your initial consultation. Labs and supplements may be recommended as part of your treatment plan.
